What is this site for?
This site is a publicly available repository of information about running a British Juggling Convention. The site was started by the team from BJC 2008, but is open for anyone to add to. Please feel free to add to it if you have relevant things to say.
This information will be useful to you if you are thinking of running a BJC or similar event, or if you are wondering what's involved and how it's done.
Anyone can edit anything here, and all editors are fallible. Things you read are not gospel, and they are not the statements of any authoritative "BJC organisation". They are opinions and people's (perhaps imperfect) understanding or recollection of facts. Please don't use anything here as your only source of legal advice.
How does the BJC work? What's involved in running one?
If you have no idea at all, start with How is the BJC organised?, an overview of the organisational structure, which is mainly conspicuous by its absence.
If you think you might like to run a BJC near you, Do you have what it takes? gives you an idea how you can work out whether a bid would be feasible.
What needs doing? is a very detailed exploration of what's required to run a successful BJC.
Being The Boss is an essay on the skills required to be in charge of something like this.
Legalities explains a few of the legal issues involved.

BJC History
There has been a BJC every year since the very first BJC in London in 1988. Details and comparative facts and figures for each of the BJCs can be found in the BJC History section plus two tables showing costs for each BJC.

The JugConOrg Yahoo Group. Lots of organisers of previous conventions read this list: if you need help or have questions about running a convention, this is a good place to ask.
The team from 2007 have a site about BJC and another wiki (aimed at punters rather than organisers), with a page about organising a BJC
The 2007 team also have a wiki about running a one-day convention.
Finally, there's also a private wiki containing info on running a BJC; for this you'll need to ask the 2007 team for access.
We (the 2008 team) have debated at length the folly of having two wikis for the same thing; but the 2007 people believe strongly in keeping the information private, and we believe equally strongly in making our information public, so we have agreed to disagree.
