  • Give a black sack to everyone when they arrive and register. -- Make it easy for them and most jugglers will help you keep the place clean.
  • Have a lucky dip volunter bag when you register - you pick out a job and book your time slot to do it
  • Reward volunteers with e.g. badges
  • Thank the volunteers publically and effusively at some point during the convention
  • Eating and sleeping is really important as the event is long with very long hours, BJC2k had one person whose job was to feed the rest of us and it worked brilliantly.
  • Divide the tasks into essential, desirable and fluff. Whilst the fluff is the most fun be wary of investing too much time in it (eg countdown clock at BJC2k)
  • Go to a carpet outlet and buy as long a length of end of line carpet they'll give you for £5-10. -- Put the carpet as the campsite entrance to your venue; let the carpet get horribly muddy instead of the venue.
