Site Safety

A camp site has a few legal requirements:

• Risk assessments should be made on all activities

Here is an example of a risk assessment. Risk Assessment.

• You have an obligation to provide ambient lighting at night.

• You have to have access through the camp site wide enough for a fire engine to gain access.

• You have to provide "adequate" access to individual tents.

• There should also be a fire point available on the campsite with a fire safety sign, 2 fire extinguishers and a means of alerting people.

• Other areas of site safety include;

Securing any gas bottles used for heaters, this can be done by a cheap padlock and chain. Gas bottles should ALWAYS be stored outdoors. Propane is also heavier than air so dont store above a tent if possible. Should gas leak it will fall to the floor and fill any area below it.

Ensuring that all access and egress is clear of obstacles and trip hazards.

Entrances to marquees should have fire extinguishers sited close.

All non intrinsically safe electrical connections should be fixed above ground level.
