Secret Post Office

This was an idea shamelessly nicked from a festival Anna Bodicoat went to in 2012 called No Direction Home, these are the original secret post office: http://www.maxdovey.com/the-secret-post-office/

The idea was that BJC provided some blank postcards with the BJC logo on. The name and description of a person at the BJC, along with where they might be at a particular time was written in the 'address' bit, and a message written to them on the postcard.

For 1200 postcards, with 3 different designs, and 'uncoated card' so that they could be coloured in and on, BJC 2013 paid around £50. But you wouldn't have to use logo-ed ones.

The 'posties' then delivered the post to that person.

If you want to do this at your BJC, consider recruiting posties before and getting them to bring a uniform of some kind (red jumper and hat maybe?), or providing a uniform that walk-up volunteers could use (a hat, or a sash). What could be good is putting craft materials near the post-box, so that people can colour and glitter-glue their postcards easily.

Later on in the week, when it all got a bit much for the pre-recruited posties, we put 'posting 10 postcards' up on our volunteer board.

Anna Bodicoat loves this idea and will happily run it if you ask her to! Hebe Bown was chief postmaster in 2013.

The idea was so popular BJC 2014 had a Secret Post Office again, organised by Team Fabulous, with 'posties' equipped with gold superhero cloaks.
