There are a few acronyms used in this wiki, here is an explanation of some of them:


A4 = standard paper size, 297x210 mm (8.27x11.69 inches) with area of (½)4 metre2 (⅔ ⏍)

am = Ante Meridiem (morning)

AOB = Any Other Business

AV = Audio Visual

AWOL = Absent With Out Leave

B&B = Bed and Breakfast (type of temporary accommodation)

B&Q = Block and Quayle (DIY shop)

BACS = Bankers' Automated Clearing Services

BBC = British Broadcasting Corporation

BBMC = British Balloon Modelling Convention

BBQ = Barbecue

BJA = British Juggling Association

BJAG = British Juggling Advisory Group

BJC = British Juggling Convention

BJF = British Juggling Foundation

BJG = British Juggling Guild

BKC = British Kendama Championships

BMX = Bicycle Motocross

BS = British Standards

BTEC = Business and Technology Education Council (commonly used to refer to the qualifications awarded by them)

BYJotY = British Young Juggler of the Year

BYYA = British Yo-Yo Association

CD = Compact Disc

DJ = Disc Jockey (person who plays recorded music)

DPS = Designated Premise Supervisor (person specified in Licence)

DVD = Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc

EJA = European Juggling Association

EJC = European Juggling Convention

ESPN = Entertainment Sports Programming Network

etc. = et cetera (Latin expression meaning "and so on")

FO Tape = F Off Tape

H&S = Health & Safety

HLGCB = High, Low, Goal, Crush, Bane (method of reviewing conventions)

HLGCBS = High, Low, Goal, Crush, Bane, Surprise (very similar to HLGCB, but with one more category)

HMRC = Her/His Majesty's Revenue and Customs

HMSO = Her Majesty's Stationery Office

HND = Higher National Diploma

HSE = Health and Safety Executive

ID = Identification

IJA = International Juggling Association

IJDb = Internet Juggling Database

ISO = International Organisation for Standardisation

IT = Information Technology

JTV = Juggling.tv

k = 1000

kg = Kilogram (approx 2.2 pounds)

kW = Kilowatt (approx 1.34 horsepower)

LED = Light Emitting Diode

m = metre (approx 1.1 yards or 39.5 inches)

mm = millimetre, one thousandth of a metre, (approx 25.4 mm = 1 inch)

MGP = Members of the General Public

MP3 = Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 (recorded music format)

NCCA = National Centre for Circus Arts

PA = Public Announcement / Powered Amplifier

PAT = Portable Appliance Test

PAYE = Pay As You Earn (taxation method)

PDA = Personal Digital Assistant

PDF = Portable Document Format

pm = Post Meridiem (midday and later)

rec.j = rec.juggling

RFC = Rugby Football Club

SU = Student Union

TEN = Temporary Event Notice

Ton = 20 hundredweight or 2240 pounds (not to be confused with the American ton which is 1.6% lighter and referred to as the short ton)

Tonne = 0.98 ton (19.68 hundredweight)

TSC = Team Shreddie Crunch (a group of technical numbers jugglers)

TSO = The Stationery Office

TV = Television

TWJC = Tunbridge Wells Juggling Club

UK = United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

URL = Uniform Resource Locator (website address)

US = United States (of America)

UV = Ultraviolet (also used to refer to things that glow under UV light)

V = volt

VAT = Value Added Tax (UK sales tax)

VHS = Video Home System (a format for recording video on to tape)

VJ = Video Jockey (like DJ but with images not music)

W = watt (approx 0.00134 horsepower)

WiFi = Wireless Fidelity

WJF = World Juggling Federation
